Queen’s Speech, May 2022
Responding to proposed new measures to reform mental health legislation set out in the Queen’s Speech 2022, Louise Kermode, Head of Services at Jami said:
“Changes to give people a greater say in planning their care and recovery is long overdue. We are pleased to see announcements of planned reform to the Mental Health Act as we mark Mental Health Awareness Week.
“The pandemic has had a significant impact on mental health, and an unwelcome legacy particularly for children and young people. Mental health services are under increasing pressure and reforms alone aren’t enough to transform the way services are delivered.
“Added to this is pressure due to recent increases in the cost of living, further highlighting mental health inequalities between different parts of society, and the ability to access appropriate care.
“Reforming the Mental Health Act is just the beginning of what is needed to improve mental health care for everyone.”
