Talking Therapies

Jami Adult Talking Therapies Service (for individuals over 18 and couples)

Counselling can be transformative in that it allows you to be truly heard by someone who can help explore your thoughts and feelings. Sometimes, these may have never been spoken aloud before because many of us don’t want to burden our friends or family for fear of judgement or their desire to “fix” whatever we are struggling with. Therapy provides a space where your voice matters and where no judgements are made. It also provides the freedom to work with the most intrusive and/or deep thoughts that may be impacting your life.

At Jami Talking Therapies Service for adults and couples, we offer a safe, culturally aware, therapeutic space for anyone that is struggling emotionally or psychologically, where they feel they can have 50 minutes once a week just for them.

Our service offers low-cost, time-limited counselling for anyone within the community. After an assessment by our experienced accredited assessors and being accepted into our service, you would be offered a place for weekly therapy to start your journey with an appropriate counsellor. These sessions can be online, anywhere within the UK, or in person at our Wohl Counselling Suites in Golders Green.

We are all aware of the waiting lists for mental health support in statutory services, and private counselling can be financially out of reach for many. This is why our low-cost model matters to our community – because emotional wellbeing shouldn’t be a privilege but accessible to all.

We have recently expanded our highly successful Adult Talking Therapies Service to now include counselling for young people aged 11–18.

Jami Children and Young Person’s Talking Therapies Service (11–18 years)

This service, specifically tailored for secondary-school-aged children, has been born out of the need for our young people to receive the counselling they need when they need it, rather than having to wait, in some cases years, for statutory services or on reaching crisis.

Young people from within the community can access the service with their parents’ consent and following an assessment with our experienced accredited assessor. After being accepted into our service, they would then be offered weekly therapy sessions of 50 minutes for up to 12 weeks.

Sessions are offered in person at our Wohl Counselling Suites in Golders Green. If the young person needs it, the sessions can work creatively by offering play and games. These activities allow the young person to feel comfortable and help to build trust with the counsellor to make it easier to share what is troubling them.

This low-cost service model enables parents and caregivers to make an affordable contribution to their young person’s mental wellbeing, as well as young adults themselves, ensuring support is in place before challenges escalate.

Vocational support

Our Vocational service can help people aged 25 and over to access, prepare for and pursue meaningful activity, including volunteering, education, skills training and paid employment. We can assess an individual’s skills, advise on career change, support them in their job search and help them to maintain employment. We also work jointly with various other organisations, such as Work Avenue, Resource and Boost, to help people access more specific support around paid employment.

Education and training

We run online courses, seminars and events to increase mental health literacy. For example, to join like-minded people for some peer-to-peer education, check out our Education prospectus to see everything on offer. Anyone can join us for a one-off or weekly session, online or in person.

Group and peer support at Head Room

We provide learning opportunities, support, and connection with others through a weekly programme of community group sessions. These sessions are free and open to everyone, at Head Room in Golders Green and on Zoom.

From Monday to Friday, activities on offer range from a peer support group providing short-guided meditations and mutual support in a non-judgemental space to an art group where anyone can explore their creativity. Whether it’s an essay, job application or the ironing that needs doing, all are welcome to join our Kind CoWorking or weekly bite-sized wellbeing sessions, focusing on everything from stress management to laughter yoga. Alternatively, everyone is welcome to enjoy a chat over coffee or a leisurely stroll to the park – and can participate as much or as little as feels right.
