There’s a lot of debate within the NHS about how to look after student mental health and one of the hot potatoes is whether students can be registered with 2 NHS doctors at the same time. Officially the answer is “no” you can only have one NHS GP registration at a time.

According to the NHS website students are encouraged to register with a GP either on campus or in their university city. When you go home you can access emergency GP care at your home GP for up to 14 days. After this you will need to register as a temporary resident.

If you are worried about registering with a new GP away from your old address, then speak to your family doctor and ask for their guidance on how to manage the registration process.

Being able to access medical care when away from home is crucial, so sort it out!
