A comedy night, featuring psychiatrist and award-winning stand-up comedian Dr Benji Waterhouse, helped raise just under £3,000 to support our mental health services in the community.
Reading from his first book, You Don’t Have to be Mad to Work Here, Dr Waterhouse entertained the 100-strong audience, consisting mainly of doctors and other medical professionals, with anecdotes about some of his encounters with patients and life in the early years of his career.
Dr Abigail Swerdlow, Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist and Chair of the Clinical Quality and Innovation Committee for Jami, who helped organise the event, said, “A lot of people don’t know about Jami and the breadth of essential services that are provided, so I wanted to raise awareness of the work we do supporting the community’s mental health. The evening was a good opportunity to bring a large number of medical and healthcare professionals together, including psychiatrists, GPs, a range of other medical specialties, as well as psychologists and occupational therapists, and reach out to a new and different audience.”
