One Barnet, Many Voices

One Barnet Many Voices

Jami, in partnership with Harts Theatre Company, are working together with young people in Barnet on an interfaith drama project called One Barnet, Many Voices. This project has been supported by the Young Barnet Foundation, funded by a grant from their Space2Grow Children & Young People’s Fund.

We are reaching out to young people from diverse socio-cultural and faith groups in the borough of Barnet to recruit a cohort of 12-15 young people, aged 13 – 17 years old. Young people will have an opportunity to explore what identity means to them and to devise their own performance on this topic, including acting, writing and producing for a one-night show at the Arts Depot on 27th February 2018.

We are running outreach taster workshops where young people can join the discussion on exploring what identity means to them. We will look at what the phrase mental health means through interactive discussion, drama games and improvisation exercises. This will also include a short and anonymous questionnaire which will give us a snapshot of youth wellbeing in the borough.

If young people enjoy our taster workshop they can sign up for the full project. This is a 12 week programme, two hours per week on a Tuesday night in Edgware. The project gives young people the chance to have their voice heard,  build resilience and promote mental wellbeing whilst skilling up on drama techniques to facilitate confidence, improve communication and increase self-expression.

Alongside the live performance we also aim to create a video legacy charting the progress of the project and the production itself.

Young Barnet Foundation are on a mission to grow activities, opportunities and services to support children and young people across The London Borough of Barnet.
The cornerstone of the Foundation is to raise funds to grow their Space2Grow Children and Young People’s Fund, which is open to local charities and community groups. The fund has been set up to help children and young people to access local opportunities in safe spaces, to grow and develop to be the best that they can be.
